Our Story
On a chilly winter day, while exploring some of our favorite premium scented candle brands, we observed a notable lack of transparency regarding the origin of ingredients, particularly fragrances. Besides, many brands blended natural wax with paraffin without clarifying this to consumers; one brand referred to it as "proprietary premium wax," while another labeled it as a "soy wax blend."
For nearly a year, we meticulously researched and sourced the finest local and global ingredients and materials, hand-poured and tested hundreds of candles, ultimately creating a product we are proud to use in our own home.
Upper House scented candles are crafted with 100% natural soy wax sourced from US-grown soybeans, making them a healthier and more environmentally friendly alternative to most premium scented candles on the market.
Soy wax is derived from renewable soybeans, making it a more sustainable option compared to petroleum-based paraffin wax.
Additionally, soy wax burns cleanly without releasing harmful substances, offering a safer indoor air quality solution compared to paraffin and soy blend candles, which may emit carcinogens.
Unlike many premium scented candle brands, we take pride in transparently sharing the origins of our fragrances. All of our scents are meticulously formulated in a family-owned and operated perfumery located in Grasse, France—the perfume capital of the world. Those scents are free from CMR substances and phthalates, vegan-friendly, and cruelty-free.
Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in both our vessels and packaging. Proudly handcrafted by skilled artisans in Spain, our containers are made from 100% recycled glass. We encourage repurposing our glass jars once they are empty, but they can also be recycled. Additionally, the beautiful box that houses the candle is made from FSC recycled paper and is printed with water-based ink.
Our candles are proudly hand-poured in exclusive quantities in Upstate New York, where we draw much of our inspiration.
